Signups For New S.C. Credit Monitoring Begin Oct. 24

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBIA, S.C. -

Enrollment begins next week for a new, state-paid monitoring service for South Carolinians in the wake of a massive hacking of state records.

Gov. Nikki Haley said Tuesday that, beginning Oct. 24, anyone affected by the hacking of millions of records at the Department of Revenue can sign up for protection from CSIdentity Corp.

South Carolina is paying the Texas company up to $8.5 million to provide credit monitoring to people affected by the September 2012 theft of unencrypted information from Revenue's computer servers.

Credit bureau Experian had been doing that work for nearly 1.5 million people under a no-bid, $12 million contract. Everyone affected by the hacking is eligible for CSID's services, but the service will not transfer, so they'll have to sign up again.

For questions regarding the coverage or the sign up process, simply visit:  www.scidprotection.com or call toll free 855-880-2743, beginning October 24, 2013.

The deadline to enroll is October 1, 2014.
